Dave and Jim met while working at Lakes Community High School in Lake Villa, Illinois. Dave teaches science; Jim teaches math. One day, they learned that they have common interests, including brewing. This marked the beginning of their partnership. They started experimenting with original beer flavors using Jim's home equipment in his basement. In a short time, they were winning top awards at regional beer contests.
The name 9th Hour was inspired by the weekly happy hour gatherings of their teaching colleagues after the eight-period school day. Dave, in particular, is known for rounding up the teachers for 9th Hour every Friday, whether it is at a nearby establishment or at his home to sample 9th Hour brews he has on tap in his garage.
Jim and Dave enjoy a friendship beyond their business partnership. If they are not brewing together, they're likely hunting together. Jim, a pilot, even helped Dave propose to his now-wife, Emily, by flying the couple over his farm property where lay a large sign that asked, "Marry me?" The plane comes in handy. One other time, Jim flew he and Dave to northern Wisconsin so they could accept an award for one of their brews.
Dave and Jim look forward to the opening of 9th Hour Brewing Co. in the near future, educating their guests about the brewing process, and meeting their every beer-related need.
